1.0 MY INTERNSHIP PREPARATIONS

1.1  Selection of company

Since the commencement of semester 4, we were required to select the companies where we desire to perform our internship at. Due to I worked in Ernst & Young last semester break, so I was keen to try finance related jobs rather than auditing (Accounting). Then, I browsed the company list provided by Career Service Centre and applied 3 banks from the list through university placement. Months later, I did not get any replies and therefore I started to look for intern vacancies in my hometown, Kota Kinabalu. I looked through all the websites and found that Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) does provide internship programme to all Malaysian students from institutes of higher learning. SCC is a financial corporation which meet my requirement, finance related job. So, I drafted and sent my resume and cover letter to the person in charge, Madam Vicky immediately and I got my offer letter successfully.

1.2  Workshops and Training

Throughout the internship application, Career Services Centre officers gave a lot of help on solving my enquiries regarding internship. I used to email the officers but not face to face consultation as I have been so impatient for getting answers upon my questions. They replied my email with clear and precise explanation, they would give me a call for further explanation if I still confused with my question. In addition, they also provided several workshops which able to enhance and strengthen different working skills such as writing resume, leadership skills, Do and Don't during interview session, and how to ace my internship. With the previous practical training experience and participation of these pre-internship workshops, I have more in depth knowledge and strengthened skills in order to complete my internship.

1.3  Setting Expectations/Goals

Before the internship begins, I expected to situate in a whole new environment as the company is a government owned corporation, which is new to me. I may get to enhance my English and Bahasa Melayu oral skills and be more focus when comes to tasks management. Besides, since SCC has received a number of awards, no doubt that the internship program is well-integrated. Hence I expected there are more rules and regulations have to be obeyed. Last but not least, knowledge towards finance industry can be broaden and this will bring benefits to my future career pathway. I wish I could complete my internship without making any frauds and causing problems to my company.
