Reflective Journal: Business Communication
Business communication is a module which is similar to English for Business Purpose which I had taken during Semester 1. Before embarking on this assignment, I wish I could do an interview with an interesting business such as board games café but unfortunately the café I found is a franchise and I was forced to eliminate this option due to one of the criteria for the company chosen could not be a franchise. Therefore, I had a discussion with my 3 other group members and we have an alternative option which is Ruemz Hotel. The reasons we chose Ruemz Hotel is because of it is located in the campus, this solved the transportation problems as all of us are outstation students. Secondly, two of our group members are staying at Ruemz Hotel. Hence, they have the basic knowledge toward the hotel structure and activities.
Before attempting on this business report assignment, I thought it would be very easy to hand on. However, unlike the interview we had for last semester Introduction to Management, which only requires long length of essay written, but this module required us to generate a report with appropriate and accurate business report format. In order to complete this report, we have to put in more efforts and contribute more time and group works. With the interview questions listed down beforehand, we were prepared to ensure we did not miss out any important answers needed for this written report. After conducting an interview with Mr. Dev, the front office manager of Ruemz Hotel, my expectations were fulfilled. This is due to the fact that all questions were answered clearly and simplified by Mr Dev who gave us a better understanding of how Ruemz hotel be operated by a group of experienced hotelier and serious yet passionate interns. Furthermore, Mr. Dev is a hilarious kind of person, his humour smoothen the interview procedure.
The obstacle we faced to is Ruemz Hotel is just a boutique hotel. Therefore, there is a limited range of resources and information could be found online. Fortunately, Mr. Dev was kind and patient enough to answer our questions briefly each by each throughout the interview. I felt thankful for his effort that he has contributed to us. In addition, I’m not proficient in writing essay as my English isn't good enough. However, I’m glad that my group mates could help me in correcting my grammar mistakes.
All in all, this interview has opened up and widened my sight to the business world. I have known that how Taylor’s Education Group gives helps to students from education to practical in order to benefit their future careers. Now, I am more aware of business responsibilities and innovative strategies used to gain advantages to stand out among competitors. Therefore, this assignment has cultivated a sense of responsibility among my team members and I. Moreover, working together with my team members gave us the opportunity to listen to different ideas and perceptions to present this assignment. Our written report is the best possible combination of ideas produced from our many brain storming sessions.
